Understanding Element Classification for IFC 2×3 exchange in ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 3 – Predefined Types

Introduction

This is the final part of Element Classification in ARCHICAD. Now this post is predominantly put together as a resource for other ARCHICAD users interested in gaining more knowledge around IFC so its not generally something I expect everyone to read top to bottom. Continue reading

Understanding Element Classification for IFC 2×3 exchange in ARCHICAD 19 – Part 2 – ArchiCAD Type and Library Parts

Introduction

In the last post we looked at the relationship between Components/Elements and Types when using Element Classification.

In this second post we share information about how these Element Classifications are setup by default in ARCHICAD. We will cover how these are set up for elements (i.e. walls, slabs etc) and how they are configured with the out-of-the-box ARCHICAD library.

At the bottom of the post we share some observations and some perceived minor errors with the out-of-the-box ARCHICAD library. Continue reading

Understanding Element Classification for IFC 2×3 exchange in ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 1 – Relationships

Introduction

In an earlier post we looked at the requirements of COBie for both Components and Types. This series of posts are highly technical posts and not something I would expect users to understand in depth, although I know some of our power users will try and follow them. However this kind of understanding is important if you are setting up templates for ARCHICAD users. There is a fair bit of detail to understand so the information is split into three posts. We will look at the relationship between Components and Types in this post. Continue reading

COBie 2.4, BS 1192-4:2014 and ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 5: System, Assembly, Connection, Spare, Resource, Job, Impact, Document, Coordinate, Attribute and Issue

Introduction

We previously covered Instruction, Contact, Facility and Floor, Space and Zone, Component and Type. In this final post we look at the remaining parts of the COBie schema including Systems, Coordinates and Attributes .

COBie 2.4, BS 1192-4:2014 and ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 4: Type

Introduction

In the previous posts we have covered Instruction, Contact, Facility, Floor, Space and Zone and Component. In this post we will focus on COBie’s requirements at the Type level. Types are something that the vast majority of ARCHICAD users will probably not be familiar with. However many other BIM tools filter data by Type so it is important to understand how this works when it comes to exchanging models both for IFC and COBie. Continue reading

COBie 2.4, BS 1192-4:2014 and ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 3: Component

Introduction

In the previous two posts about COBie we have looked at Instruction, Contact, Facility and Floor and then Space and Zone. In this post we will look at the data required by COBie 2.4 and BS 1192-4:2014 for Components. Continue reading

COBie 2.4, BS 1192-4:2014 and ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 2: Space and Zone

Introduction

This is the second in a series of posts about COBie 2.4, BS 1192-4:2014 and ARCHICAD. In the last post we looked at Instruction, Contact, Facility and Floor requirements of COBie and BS 1192-4. In this post we will look at Space and Zone information. Continue reading

COBie 2.4, BS 1192-4:2014 and ARCHICAD 18/19 – Part 1: Instruction, Contact, Facility and Floor

Introduction

For the past 12 months i’ve been presenting ‘The COBieNATOR’ which is a LIVE demonstration of COBie’s relationship to IFC. First showcased at BIM Show Live 2014 (see here for more details) I was subsequently asked to present it at a number of other events both in the UK and abroad. Having toured the world presenting the class, I thought it would be useful to share some of the information we presented in a more structured format. Introduction

So Graphisoft ARCHICAD 19 has finally been announced!! It feels like we have been waiting longer this year for its release than previous years. The NBS BIM Toolkit public BETA – feedback

Introduction

The new Digital Plan of Work (dPoW) and Classification system were introduced in public beta at BIM Show Live a few weeks ago. Both are incorporated into a single tool with development led by NBS to form the NBS BIM Toolkit BETA. The dPoW and Classification components form part of the wider components of “Level 2 BIM” with only PAS 1192-5:2015 now left to be published. The final live version of the toolkit will officially be available sometime around June 2015.  Continue reading
